Tour Down Under

Here are a few of my photographs from the 2009 Tour Down Under Cancer Council Classic, which was held in Adelaide (South Australia) last week. Dries Devenyns and the riders raced at the Adelaide Parklands in front of an estimated 138,000 spectators:

Laurent Lefèvre negotiated traffic through the tightest corner of the 1.7km course.

Greg Henderson and Team Columbia’s domestiques had set up Andre Greipel’s position for the final sprint well, however the German failed, finishing in fourth place for the Classic.

A Saxo Bank rider changed gears as he exited the turn from Bartels Road onto Dequetteville Tce.

The shadows were lengthening as the Cancer Classic neared its closure.

For his comeback event, Lance Armstrong warmed up on his new Trek bicycle alongside his former long-time domestique, George Hincapie.

And three from Stage 2 on the Wednesday (taken near Mylor): Bernhard Eisel (Team Columbia) and Team Astana lead the peloton on the first Mylor-Stirling lap at the end of Stage 2 of the 2009 Tour Down Under

Matthew Lloyd (Silence-Lotto), Francesco Reda (Quick Step) and Scott Davis (UniSA) attacked the peleton on the climb out of Mylor.
